Press Information - 27th September 2017
A brand new team created by a group of businessmen with a passion for competition, Matrix Motorsport is preparing to catapult into the forefront of British saloon car racing when it enters next year’s Renault Clio Cup. Having acquired two cars, spares and a race transporter, the team has already started testing and is now in the process of relocating to its new, fully equipped workshop in the Midlands.
Matrix Motorsport is headed up by Team Principal Jeff Alden who, in recent years, has achieved considerable success in the MSA Time Attack Championship and various club racing series’.
“Setting up this team is something we’ve been working on for a number of years, so it’s great to finally see our plans become a reality”, explains Alden.
“We intend to start by establishing ourselves in the TOCA paddock by competing in the Clio Cup before moving into other areas of motorsport. Our long term plan is to compete in the BTCC, so there’s some exciting times ahead!”
Alden will drive one of the team’s Renaults alongside teammate Andy Wilmot who brings with him previous experience from the BTCC and Ginetta championships. Dave Hayes has been appointed as Team Manager and Chief Engineer, with Alden’s business associate Roger Shone brought in as Commercial Director.
The team is currently looking at adding another two cars to its line-up and consequently, is inviting drivers wishing to take part in next year’s Clio Cup to get in touch to discuss opportunities and terms. In addition, the team is looking to appoint key personnel and therefore, candidates who hold the appropriate experience are asked to get in touch.
Matrix Motorsport is planning its official launch during the next few weeks, when its sponsors and commercial partners will be announced.
