Better fortunes at Brands bring two top tens for Jeff

Volkswagen Racing Cup - Rounds 11 and 12

3rd & 4th August 2019

“I’m happy with that”, said Matrix Motorsport’s Jeff Alden, after finishing 8th and 7th respectively in Sunday’s (4th August) rounds 11 and 12 of the Volkswagen Racing Cup.

Unable to hook up the perfect lap on the Grand Prix configuration of the Brand Hatch Circuit, a frustrating qualifying session on Saturday saw the Cheltenham-based driver line up 14th on the grid. But putting all that behind him when the lights went green for the start of the first race on Sunday, Jeff moved up to 10th by the end of the first lap and then kept his cool whilst being locked in battle to move up to 9th on lap six and 8th on lap eight – a position he defended to the end of the 10 lap race.

With finishing positions of the first race dictating the starting positions of the second, Jeff was determined to make the most of his elevated grid placing - and  did so perfectly. Although hounded by competitors around him, he hung on to his own, so much so that on the final lap Jeff snatched 7th place and in doing so, recorded his best results of the season so far.

“After qualifying I have to admit that I was a little concerned for the race, but the Maximum Motorsport team did a great job of setting the car up and from the moment I left the grid it felt great. I’m therefore really pleased with the way things went; I was able to fight for the positions, I kept it clean, didn’t make any mistakes and was able to score my best results of the season”.

The final two rounds of the 2019 Volkswagen Racing Cup take place at Donington Park on 14th & 15th September.
